About the Event

A Baronial Arts & Science event hosted by Mistress Marioun of the Laurel and Countess Arlette. Get started on making your first tunic, try out silk painting, or work on other creative endeavours with the guidance of two experienced Laurels.

Tunic-Making

  • A tunic can be as long as a dress or as short as a shirt. You will need 2-3m of fabric. For a tunic dress get twice the length from the floor to your shoulder plus one extra m if you want long sleeves.
  • Those wanting to make a tunic have a bit of time to look for fabric and possible trims you wish to use.
  • Make sure to pre-wash your fabric ahead of the date of our sewing day.
  • If you are interested in joining us to assist in patterning or working on a tunic for yourself the more the merrier!
  • Make sure to pre-wash your fabric ahead of the date of our sewing day.
  • Handy measurements to know: Around the chest (under the arms), bust, waist, widest part of hips, upper arm, and wrist. And the width of shoulder (from the bone at the back of the neck to shoulder bone). The length of arm (from shoulder bone to wrist with arm bent at a right angle), neck bone to floor (or preferred length), neck bone to waist, waist to hip.
  • Please let Mistress Marioun know privately if you can use help acquiring fabric for a tunic and she will try to help. If anyone has fabric made of natural fibre, or trim etc…to donate to this effort please bring it or send it to fight practice.

Silk Painting for Giant Processional Banner

  • Mistress Marioun will be bringing frames, silk, gutta and paint to fight practice on January 16th. If you bring your design (printed or drawn on paper) she can help you get started on your square for the giant processional banner for Pennsic.
  • The design area is no larger than 8x8 inches.
  • One design to represent each individual. You can do the painting for someone else with their permission.
  • These can be registered badges but do not need to be registered to go on the banner.
  • The design should have contrast between the background and the charge colour.
  • Try looking at your design from across the room to see if the outline is recognizable. Remember these will be on a giant banner twenty or thirty feet in the air.

Call to Teachers and artisans of all skill levels

Mistress Marioun is interested in hearing from anyone who is teaching or is interested in teaching Arts or Sciences within the barony. As well, she would love to know about your latest projects. Please be in touch with or chat with Mistress Marioun at fight practice to let me know what you are working on.

*There is plenty of space for any project you wish to work on. Please let me know if you need tables as the City staff need to know how many tables we need.

*If you are interested in joining us to assist in patterning or working on a tunic for yourself the more the merrier!
